Your profile says your mom has general age related decline and this question is posted under Alzheimer's/dementia. I am not sure of your mom's issues and that will impact the answer. Can you give us a few more details? Has she had a complete checkup? Is she active and involved in any activities?

You say Mom has aging decline. She may be depressed or now showing signs of Dementia. You may want to have her evaluated. There r a number of reasons why this is happening. Blood tests will rule some things out.

I am 72 and I talk to myself. I've done this for a long time but now that I live alone I do it out loud. I don't think there is anything wrong with me, but with your mother it may be a symptom that should be checked out.

"I just want to die. Why can't I just be dead?"
"You will die. I will be very sad and miss you, but when it is your time, you will die. Until then, let's do something pleasant." (If appropriate, "You will die when God is ready for you." Or bring in religious beliefs if Mother has some.)

I agree that it would be a good idea to have Mother evaluated. Would she agree to a thorough medical exam?
