I knew I had lost all faith in leadership at The Hearth at Sycamore Village when they told us, the staff, they no longer want to respond to call lights unless patients fall. They said they didn't have time or resources to answer call lights, if wheelchair bound patients called and needed help due to a toileting issue. They said they could just wait until it was time to round on them. Since when can older adults plan their bowel movements and why should they be subject to sit in soiled cloths for hours waiting for their turn? It was also very common for those in wheelchairs to also have to sit for up to an hour and a half after a meal to get taken back to their rooms. These were all people who were paying extra money... upward of $2300 a month, on top of their monthly rent for "extra levels of care". I was also told to always lie about our occupancy levels to families and professionals who ask. My partner who trained me told me to tell everyone we are always at 90% occupancy when, in fact we were at 68%. All these things are probably why they have major staff turnover and can't keep an executive director. The last one stayed for three months. So glad to be out of there and working with a leadership team NOW who has real integrity and compassion for the elderly population.
