About Right at Home Livermore Valley
John Clauser grew up just next door to Livermore in the Pleasanton area. He temporarily moved away while attending the University of the Pacific where he studied business administration with an emphasis in marketing. Once out of school, John and a cluster of friends decided to start their own company in Stockton, a boutique marketing agency with a unique model. The agency focused on partnering for-profit companies with nonprofit entities. With an understanding that broadcast media outlets allocate a certain number of on-air minutes to free marketing for nonprofits, the agency paired businesses with non-profits for a mutually beneficial advertising relationship and an added benefit of helping out the community.
John eventually returned to his hometown so he could help operate the family business — a small chain of pharmacies in the Pleasanton area, including a pharmacy that serves Bay Area assisted living and long-term care facilities.
“Our pharmacies had built a reputation in the community that we will work with people to get their medication, even if they’re in a tough spot,” he said.
When a local assisted living community was closed by the Department of Social Services, an attorney representing a resident asked John for help. Many of the residents hadn’t received medications in weeks and the facility was in chaos. John was already considering opening a Right at Home office and this experience highlighted that he was doing the right thing.
“At that point, I started feeling validated by my decision to work with Right at Home. There are plenty of places that are taking advantage of people, but Right at Home can help offset that. Right at Home serves a true need in our community,” said John.
