Resthaven Funeral Home opened in 1979 on the northeast corner of

Resthaven Memorial Park by Neill E. and Mary E. Wiley. Resthaven was and

remains Shawnee's only funeral home with an on-site cemetery. Neill


Mary Wiley were active members of the Shawnee community and devoted

countless hours to improving the community. They raised their family


the house next door to the funeral home. You can still find the

children's hand prints in the sidewalks and driveways around the funeral


The Wileys' hard work and dedication to serving the

community established Resthaven as the premier funeral home in

Pottawatomie County. In 2001, the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce honored

the legacy of the Wileys by establishing the annual 'Neill and Mary

Wiley Award,' which recognizes an outstanding volunteer in the


In 2006, Resthaven merged with Gaskill-Owens Funeral

Home. Many pieces of Gaskill-Owens' antique furniture, paintings, and

other memorabilia were moved to Resthaven and are on display in our

remodeled family gathering room. Gaskill-Owens' ledger books dating back

to the 1920s are among the most interesting artifacts.
