I’m Jim Secker, and for the past 18 years, my family has called Waxhaw home. During this time, I’ve been deeply committed to making a difference in our community—serving as a local Scout leader for 12 years and volunteering for school functions, all while building a career in IT sales.
My journey into caregiving is deeply personal. Twenty years ago, my parents moved to this area following Dad’s retirement from the New York City Police Department. In 2018, he was diagnosed with lung cancer. I witnessed firsthand the stress and daily concerns that come with being a caregiver for someone with a life-threatening medical condition.
Fortunately, my mom—a retired nurse—knew how to navigate much of the day-to-day care, but even with her experience, finding additional support services was often frustrating. A few years ago, my parents moved in with me. When Dad’s cancer progressed, he made it clear he wanted to stay home as much as possible. While we were able to engage with a few homecare agencies, the process was overwhelming—reliability was an issue, and finding the right resources added more stress to an already emotional time. Despite his strength and determination, Dad passed away in 2023.
Both of my children have now graduated from Union County Public Schools and are successfully pursuing their careers. As an empty nester, I decided it was time to make a career change. After seeing how much coordination and care is needed to help aging adults remain at home, I wanted to dedicate my career to making that journey easier for families like mine.
That path led me here. That's why I became the proud owner and operator of Hallmark Homecare of Union County, NC & Lancaster County, SC. Hallmark’s innovative direct-hire model allows families to access experienced, dependable caregivers at a lower cost—while caregivers earn better pay and more consistent hours.
Whether you're looking for care for a family member or simply need someone who understands the complexities of caregiving, I'm here to help.
