I contacted FirstLight Home Care when my father in law, my husband, and I needed additional help in caring for my mother in law. The caregivers are responsible and compassionate, making sure medication reminders are given, helping with meals, and taking care of laundry and shopping. Everyone at First Light Home Care has been such a blessing. They have provided our entire family peace of mind.

When my mother was sick, First Light Home Care was recommended by her social worker with Hospice. She said that my mom would get consistent caregivers and that the caregivers were well trained and caring. Ruth, Shannon and Val were amazing. We could not have asked for more caring people to come into our home and they were such a blessing for my mother. I felt like I could leave the house and she would be well cared for. Mary Ellen and Ken, the owners, checked on us frequently to make sure everything was going well. We were able to keep my mother at home until her passing, which was her wish. We could not have accomplished this without the support of everyone at First Light Home Care.

We recently experienced a potentially serious situation with the caregiver sent by FirstLight to monitor our father. The task was simple enough; stay awake and when our father awoke to use the bathroom, provide assistance, if needed, and make sure he returned to bed. To our dismay, my mother found the caregiver sound asleep, and to make matters worse, they had to be awakened from a sound sleep. When the owners were questioned about how their staff was accounted for during shifts, their reply was that they "recommended" their cell phones were set to alert them on a regular basis. This system is a recipe for failure, as it relies on one individual, with no oversight in the event of personal failure, which we experienced. Now the trust in the caregiver has been damaged and we are actively seeking for an organization that has the structure to provide oversight of the caregiver on a regular interval during the shift. Please do your background work on how the care is provided before committing to such a serious relationship.

When we received your call on July 18th bringing this concern to our attention we immediately contacted our employee, and then had her come into our office the following morning. The employee admitted she had briefly dozed off and was awoken by your mother's calling of her name. We had our employee utilize a couple of mechanisms as a safeguard when working the following night. After speaking with you and your mother we appreciated your willingness to continue to allow us to care for you father. We also appreciated the apology you later offered; although, as I mentioned it wasn't needed as our employee had not met our joint expectations. We were also thankful to hear that you would consider us again if the need arises for one of your family members or friends in the future. It was a blessing helping with your father and enabling your mother to get some much needed rest while caring for him in his final days. We apologize that we didn't execute with perfection and appreciate that you and your mother agreed that we provided excellent care. Thank you, Ken Fleming

I hired FirstLight Home Care of Charlotte about 6 months ago for tending to my wife. At that time, she had just been discharged from the hospital and her prognosis to live was not long. Now, about 6 months later, she has recovered and I am delighted to endorse FirstLight for having taken care of my wife. They helped her recovery by being there everyday, monitoring & aiding in medication compliance, nutrition compliance, taking her to doctors appointments. My wife’s primary caregiver, Irene, even helped with Christmas decorations!

When my 92-year-old mother-in-law required one-on-one monitoring the family could only cover 12 hours a day, I called FirstLight Home Care of Charlotte to provide companion care for the period of 8 PM to 8 AM and they began coverage the same day I called. As time went on we needed another four hours of coverage in the day and FirstLight supplied that also. The family and my mother-in-law are both very happy with the professionalism and compassion of the companions that have been provided. Being a very stressful time for our family FirstLight has eased part of our burden. My mother-in-law is recovering and we look to reduce the amount of coverage required but still use First Light to ease the strain on the family. One of the things I particularly enjoy is the fact the companionship show up early and never late.
