All the providers we have had are hard-working and caring. Some are more mature and skilled than others in understanding the needs of the one being cared for. Some have great housekeeping skills and others do not. As my mother's caregiver when Comfort Keepers is not here, I have needed to teach some of the ladies how to make a bed, fold sheets and do basic cleaning. I'm not sure how much basic housekeeping training they have had. Sometimes I have been frustrated with the scheduling. The only time I have to get my errands and appointments done is when Comfort Keepers is here. We have had quite a few new providers show up unexpectedly and I have to stay and give a 20-30 minute orientation and training on how the coffeemaker, TV, microwave work and the important routines my mother needs. I have it in writing but find that some providers have trouble reading and learn best by doing. My mother is not able to give these instructions. If I know a new person is coming ahead of time, I can adjust my schedule. Otherwise I am inconvenienced and think it's unfair for us to pay for that unexpected training time. I also wish that the providers I train could return rather than be a one-time provider.Taking care of elderly people is hard work, and we appreciate having this service available to us.
