Our Mother has been a resident of BW, Huntington Terrace, for several years, at first in independent living and now in assisted living. Our Father had been in the memory loss unit, several years ago. Our family has much experience with the personnel and staff at BW, as a result. We have found this particular BW in Melville, LI, short staffed, short tempered, unresponsive to our concerns. Our Mother is probably taxing them due to her increasing needs; however, that's why she is in Assisted Living. We have had to hire costly round the clock private aids to be with her. This is because the BW aids are few and in some cases belligerent to the aging population there. Some of them take advantage by holding a hand out for a tip, or have scolded our Mother for being a nuisance. In addition, she is now being told there will be a daily rent increase; we want to know why, but nobody returns our calls. It's very frustrating dealing with BW staff in so many ways. The security camera system in the buildings have never been in operating condition. Very poor security. Staff members have keys to all apartments. Jewelry and money have been taken from her apartment, but nobody knows who's done it, because we can't see who is going into her apartment when she's not in it. The ATM machine has no camera hooked up to it, so residents are at a great security risk. BW wants more rent but why? Overtime we have noticed that the BW nursing staff has been exemplary; the team has been very responsive and caring to our Mother, which seems to be the only aspect of BW for which we have absolutely no criticism. We have been dealing with so many complexities regarding our Mothers health issues, that had it not been for the round the clock care and attention by this hard working nursing staff, it would become much worse for her.
