Scott's practice is focused on elder law, estate planning and asset protection. One of the reasons he has chosen to focus on these areas is that his wifes grandmother spent nearly 10 years in a nursing home and he saw first hand how financially devastating and stressful the experience can be, not only for the person in the nursing home but for the family as a whole. Scott is a member of the leading professional organizations associated with elder law, estate planning and asset protection, including WealthCounsel, LLC, Medicaid Practice Systems, NAELA and ElderLaw Answers. In addition, he was a charter member of The Academy of Special Needs Planners.Community involvement is extremely important to Scott. He is a former City Commissioner of Ormond Beach. Scott Scott is a graduate of Florida State University and Stetson University's College of Law. He has been happily married to his wife, Kimberly, since 1984, and they are the proud parents of three children. When not practicing law, Scott enjoys boating, theater, travel, music and dancing.

Elder Law
The fastest growing age group in the U.S. is people over 85 years old. As this population ages, it will be facing many unique issues, including estate planning, disability and health care, which was not faced by previous generations. One of the greatest concerns of this age group is the possibility of outliving their savings.
The greatest threat to their life savings is long-term care costs. Today, the average cost of nursing home care in Florida is approximately $75,000 per year. This is why it is very important to plan. This planning process should not only involve your financial advisor and accountant but an attorney who specializes in elder law as well.
There are governmental programs such as Medicaid that can help offset the cost of long-term care and there are legal steps that can be taken to help you qualify for those benefits.
The attorneys at Chiumento Selis Dwyer feel that it is important to educate the aged and their families about their rights, especially concerning protecting one's life savings from long-term care costs.
Many laws and community-based programs exist today for the elderly. However, if you are not experienced in this area, you may need assistance deciphering the programs that are available to you as well as the additional rights you have acquired through age.
Our areas of Elder Law service include:

Asset Protection Planning
Medicaid Application Assistance
Medicaid Planning
VA Aid/Attendant Care

Our firm offers regularly scheduled free workshops to educate you and your loved ones about your legal rights and the governmental programs available to you to pay for all or some of your long-term care costs.
