How Do You Pay For Assisted Living in Texas?

Care in a Texas assisted living community is typically paid for by a resident’s private funds (e.g. savings, 401(k), pension, Social Security, etc.), long-term care insurance, and in some cases, VA benefits.

Texas Medicaid can also help minimize costs associated with assisted living through the Community Based Alternatives (CBA) and STAR+PLUS Waivers.

Those who are not eligible for Medicaid can receive assistance through the Community Care for the Aged/Disabled (CCAD) Program. CCAD provides personal care to low income elderly or disabled individuals in their own home, a foster care setting, or an assisted living facility, but the program does not cover room and board costs. Eligible applicants are at least 18 years old, have a monthly income of no more than $2,199, have less than $5,000 in countable assets and resources, and must require assistance due to a disability or impairment.
