How Do You Pay For Assisted Living in Connecticut?

Care in a Connecticut assisted living community is typically paid for by a resident’s private funds (e.g. savings, 401(k), pension, Social Security, etc.), long-term care insurance, and in some cases, VA benefits.

Connecticut’s Medicaid program is known as HUSKY Health. The Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders Waiver offers assisted living services for adults ages 65 and older who are at risk of institutionalization or already meet nursing home level care. Applicants must also meet financial guidelines in order to qualify for services. The unadjusted gross income limit is $2,199 per month, and for elders (over 65), assets may not exceed $1,600. Additional asset limitations apply to spouses of wavier recipients as well.
