In 1945, A. M. and Cleo Minton purchased the Carver Funeral Home in Borger, Texas. It became known as Minton Funeral Home and Flowers and was operated in the original building at 411 S. Main St. until 1962 when the Minton’s opened their new facility at 314 S. Hedgecoke as Minton Mortuary and Flowers.
A. M. died in 1964 and Cleo operated the business until 1976 when she sold the Funeral Home to her son Jake Minton and his partner Jerry Chatwell. Minton Mortuary then became Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors. In subsequent years, Jake and Jerry acquired Westlawn Memorial Park and opened a brand new location in Fritch, Texas and purchased the Funeral Home in Panhandle, Texas. The business is still operating under the same family management. Jake Minton is manager and Jerry Chatwell is still active in the business.
The Minton and Chatwell families have served the communities of Borger, Fritch, Panhandle and Stinnett for over 60 years and continue to offer services that provide a way to remember loved ones with dignity.
