Partner Howard S. Krooks, Esq., CELA*, CAP** is admitted and actively practicing law in Florida and New York. He is Of Counsel to Amoruso & Amoruso, LLP in Westchester County, New York. Partner Ellen S. Morris, Esq. devotes much of her professional time to guardianship litigation, fiduciary litigation, will contests and nursing home residents’ rights litigation.
Ms. Morris serves as Administrative Chair on the Executive Committee of the Elder Law Section of The Florida Bar. Ms. Morris is currently co-chair of the Joint Public Policy Task Force of the Elder Law Section of The Florida Bar and AFELA. Mr. Krooks is also a member of the Joint Public Policy Task Force where they work to protect the rights of our most vulnerable citizens. Mr. Krooks was invited to join a special sub-task force to review policies of The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) that may not be in compliance with federal law. The special task force will also determine whether DCF policies have followed proper rule-making procedures.
Mr. Krooks is a past president of NAELA, currently serves as President of the NAELA New York Chapter and was honored with the designation of NAELA Fellow. He serves on the Executive Council of the Elder Law Section of The Florida Bar as the NAELA Liaison. He is a Past Chair of the Elder Law Section of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA), where he continues to serve on the Executive Committee. Mr. Krooks is a Founding Principal of ElderCounsel LLC, the premier elder law and special needs planning document drafting solution for attorneys. Ms. Morris is a graduate of the University of Florida with honors where she received her undergraduate and then her law degree in 1989. Mr. Krooks received his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from SUNY Albany, and his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
Both Ms. Morris and Mr. Krooks have addressed a variety of elder law and special needs topics on local, regional and national levels through their writings and frequent speakaing engagements.
