Holly, I am a current client
My mother-in-law had just had what appeared to be a major stroke having been preceded by a first stroke ~six months prior and most likely a few smaller one between. After her first stroke, she had made known that she never wanted to go back to the hospital or end up in a nursing home. When the major stroke occurred, her desires where well known, but difficult for some of the family members to comprehend and follow. Nothing was in writing and she was dutifully driven per ambulance to the hospital. The doctor's attempted to explain to numbed ears the scope and reality under new guidelines the options which were available. The "children" were told that she needed to leave the hospital within three days and she was thus sent to a nursing/rehabilitation facility. By grace, the children understand in less than 24 hours, that this was not the correct path for their mother. I called Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care, knowing someone within the company and having seen their devotion to all the "patients" of other families. And so it was that on THANKSGIVING DAY, our lady in green appeared, took over and brought home our dear mother where she was able to peaceably leave this life a short 4-5 days later having been able to visit and say her last goodbyes to her family and friends within the calm confines of her own home. Thank you hardly suffices. I have personally been a client of their Palliative Care Section. This fairly new concept which could benefit so many. It is not Hospice.
