The thing is, even with taxes taken out, you'd have more money than you'd spend in your entire lifetime, if you play your cards right and aren't completely foolish with it. Your children's children could be well provided for, if you invest some of it wisely.

I believe when it was at 9 million, they said the lump sump payout after taxes would be around 5 million - that's still a heck of a lot of cabbage!

Rainmom, you are due to win. Good luck!

Glad, It would be just like you to share all that $$$. It would be a full time job just managing it all!

I want enough to pay off my mortgage and buy an RV. Just a couple hundred thousand. I am a member of lottery pool and who knows!

Talk about visualizing winning. Hubby and I just had short semi-serious discussion on whether we'd take the lump sum or the annuity - lol, too funny!

Susan - lol, that's how I look at it! I buy four lottery tickets a week, I have for years: Powerball, Mega Millions, Oregon Mega Bucks, and Win For Life. I NEVER win anything - I don't even check the tickets for months at a time - and then I make hubby do it. So I figure I due, right?

Can you imagine if the winner decided to share the pot with the population of the US? Sorry you UK and Canadian people, maybe we could get you included. ;) Check out the avatar.

I think some people are just born with an extra dose of luck. I have an aunt that goes to bingo for fun, she has for years. I can't think of a single holiday where she hasn't won a ham or a turkey, and it's not because there are few players and everybody wins. She tends to come home with more money than she brings to the casino as well (it helps to offset my uncle's losses). The funny thing is it happens to her so regularly that she doesn't see herself as lucky.
Me, I could play for years and never win, and at a casino the "fun" would only last as long as it took to put my money in the slot. I always figured I may as well toss quarters in the toilet and flush, but then there wouldn't be flashing lights and bells lol!

Sendme - the way I look at it, my numbers have never come up in any drawing for this particular game, so that means there's still a chance, however slim. Kind of a glass half full way of looking at it. Our state website for the lottery has a page where you can check to see if your numbers have ever come up - ever. Kind of cool to look at it that way.

And yes, I bought my tickets. I figure someone has to win, and I can't win if I don't play. I won't really regret buying a few tickets - we're not talking spending hundreds on them here, not even $20 - but I would definitely regret it if my numbers won and I didn't play them.

Fantasizing buying a few tickets to sell at the end of a long lotto line to people that get shut out but must have a ticket! 5 tickets cost $10.00, sell each for $100.00?

Did you hear about any riots in the lotto lines yet?

Here are the results of my numbers:
07. Number of times you'll recheck this ticket before accepting you never had a chance.
25 Number of years you'll have to continue working at your awful job.
35 Number of car payments you still have to make.
45. How many dollars you presently have in checking account
69. Number of major life mistakes you've made that led to a near-impossible lotto win being your only hope for a debt-free existence.

...meh.

OMG!!! Just saw that NO ONE hit the jackpot - $1.3 BILLION for Wednesdays drawing!!! Time to really ratchet up the dream!!! The ticket buying lines will be long - so don't put off getting a ticket. Heck it's work the $16 bucks it will cost for my lucky eight tickets to just feel I have even the tiniest chance - the entertainment in the imagining alone! Bono and George - save my seat at the VIP table. WOW!!!

I know - it's just crazy to think it's possible to go to one person! In all likelihood there will be a couple winners with the number of tickets sold. I have eight - my lucky number. Hubby is in a pool at work with 300 tickets! Last night I had killer insomnia so I laid there spending my money until I fell asleep. I use to be a cloths horse but at this point in my life I'm sure I would just revert to my Levis and Ugg boots - but I sure would have a lot of them! Well - except for the occasional formal occasion - charity dinners with Bono and George Clooney! For those times a little Armani and Louboutin - all custom of course.

I would get enough cash to roll around in first !!! Not naked tho, I would want to spend that money !!! I would have a mountain retreat built, exactly like I wanted it..Get a chef and housekeeper, to only be there for meals and cleaning in the am. Then everyone goes home and leaves Ladee alone in her STUDIO... OMG.... that would truly be a dream come true...
And have an animal sanctuary.... all kinds of animals... because I would own that mountain I live on....
I would have a picture taken with me laying in all that money, and send it to my two Ugly Sisters, with a note saying... OHH, but you should have been nicer people.....
I would have to help people somehow... I have been helped so much in my life that not paying it forward , well, I just could not do that... This would be another big list.
I would travel. I have always wanted to go to Switzerland. And anywhere else I wanted to go... I would get a Harley and have a grizzly biker dude be my driver !!! Oh man... when we come down from this we are sure going to be cranky... lol

That would be a good characteristic in looking for a startup. I would let the owner handle everything, though. I'm dreadful at business, so wouldn't want to be involved in the control of it, just in providing some capital to grow.

And among the requirements of the job is new employees must have provided care for an elderly loved one for a minimum of one year. Give some of us an opportunity which are very difficult to find due to our ages, but add the caregiving, anybody is fortunate to find anything.

After sleeping on this, I thought about a great thing to do with the money. After roosting on it for a few days, I would start looking at some startup business that needed a leg up to help them hire employees. It would be a wonderful investment in growing jobs for a small entity that often gets crushed in a corporate world. I like the idea of creating jobs. I couldn't spend so much money on myself without getting totally crazy. I don't like the thought of just handing it out. Handouts can end up hurting people. But I love the thought of job creation.

I would remodel this falling apart house to include an attached house for the cats and an indoor/outdoor pool. I would buy a decent car, then take off for all parts of the world!! (Someone paid to stay behind and give my Mom luxury care.) When I return, I would buy a beach house and throw a fine party there for the friends and family who are loyal. Come home again, and buy a horse -nice barn for him, too. And goats. Start some cool businesses for my current ID clients-and staff to support them in making the most of their venture.

I'm with you Jude, tho I would like to see my 80th birthday, health withstanding! I'll help you create that caregivers/care relievers village, picking them up in those Luxury RV's along the way! But first I will need a much needed vacation, say 6-8 weeks, pay off my home, and homes for each of my kids, any debt relief they might have, and college educations paid for, for my Grandies, and for my future Grandies. A total body makeover, tummy tuck, breast lift, masseur and facialist on hand, and a good chef. A personal assistant on standby, tho not up my butt! New cars, ans a luxury yacht, have I spent it all yet? All of my Siblings, 1 million each, and 24 hour maid service, in my new log home on a gorgeous lake, near the caregiving village. Several other log homes for visiting carers. I will request addresses and phone numbers when needed, once I get back from my trip! Good Luck everyone! My number is (***)***-****! I'll be awaiting your calls! Yippee!

Im actually quite skeptical about research. You see our bodies, our organs, our skin was not in the grand scheme of things designed to last much past 80 years. We see its decline from about 50 onwards - earlier for some. Do I actually want a decline in my physicality and my brain still be functioning. Im actually quite sure I don't.

One thing I do know is that, for me, a brain without a functioning body must be like a prison sentence. A functioning body but no brain is a prison sentence for those around me. Nope I just don't want to grow old. in fact I would settle at being able to take a pill on my 75th birthday (or earlier depending on my health levels) and then say bye bye world, it was fun while it lasted
