Addition to the rules! No "giving to family" - again, a given

I would buy a fabulous house in the Colony section of Malibu - on the beach and staff it with a full time cook and house keeper, and spend my days laying in the sun ogling celebrities. I'd buy the most luxurious sheets on the planet and have my sheets changed daily - I'm a freak for "clean sheet night". And I would have a plastic surgery bonanza - face lift, boobs, tummy tuck - the whole bit. And I would use Jane Fonda's surgeon - she looks amazing without looking fake, doesn't she?

I would use Bruce Jenner's surgeon...if he can make a man look that good, he could make all of us old tired ladies look FABULOUS...bahaha

Hmmm. First, I would buy a home somewhere warm to fly to in the winter, I guess I would have to travel a bit to find the right spot. No mansion to keep up, just a nice place with plenty of room for guests. If my friends wanted to visit of course there would be plenty to pay their airfare.No wait, I'd be like Oprah and have several homes in all my favorite places. Of course I would make sure they are all totally accessible and senior friendly.

I'd have a different pair of glasses for every mood and day of the week.

I'd have my own chef and personal trainer.

I'd get rid of my car and hire drivers to take me everywhere I want to go.

To entertain myself I would flip houses. I wouldn't turn them into McMansions, I would find nice affordable homes and make them fully accessible and environmentally friendly, to hopefully benefit the community as well as make money.

Oh, and when I get too old I will move into a suite at a luxury hotel and hire extra staff to cater to my every need. LOL

I will purchase a home closer to the beach. I will staff it with several organic chefs, housekeepers and assistants. I will rescue dogs and birds that need homes. I will purchase a solid new car, maybe a Tesla. I will hire a personal trainer to be on call 24-7 and will follow me around and slap bad food out of my hand. I will give generously to the MSPCA. I will spend my time at the beach, working out, or doing charity work at the MSPCA. I will find a reputable food bank and donate cat and dog items. I will gift my current house to my best friend. I will do some traveling (I'm not much of a traveler but always wanted to see Iceland and the Galapagos Islands). I will rest a lot, meditate a lot. I have never been one for clothes or shoes but I will buy some expensive staples, like a pair of loubouton black heels and a prada suit. I will get regular facials and massages (something I would NEVER spend money on now). I will invest in smart technologies (solar power perhaps? maybe a Gerson clinic?) and friend's dream businesses. I know you said no giving to family etc but I would definitely make sure that my family and friends who have been loyal forever are well taken care of.

Such a fun topic ;) It's good to day dream a little.

I would remodel and refurnish my old farmhouse. All the second hand "make-do" furniture would go, the wood floors and all the trim in the house refinished, that 1970's paneling gone and replaster the walls, new kitchen, and on and on ;) And then refurbish DH's big (very big) old barn - a lift for cars and/or a pit to walk down into for oil changes, new storage, good lighting, concrete floors, and whatever he wants.

And then, sell all our autos and buy each of us a nice, newer, dependable car we like, nothing extravagant or flashy, just nice and dependable.

After that, travel - Germany & Austria first and who knows after that, just where ever we want to explore -- but not too much travel, I want to come home to my remodeled house too ;)

Calicokat - Mercedes are dependable. A nice understated sedan model? You could hand pick one from the factory then have it shipped home - waiting for you at the airport to drive home.

Since it's still up for grabs:

1. I'd restore our home to its 1930's glory and spare not a penny. I'd make our home so efficient that it would make the cover of Architectural Digest. I'd hire the best landscape designer and have the most interesting and exquisite gardens money can buy and Martha Stewart would beg to film a show there. I'd buy up the McMansions that are popping up around us, tear them down and turn them into community gardens.

2. I'd join a luxury transportation service so whenever I needed a plane, helicopter, train, or automobile to get anywhere all my butler would have to do is make a phone call. My butler would come from that famous butler school in London. I'd travel to the most exotic places and my pets would come with me. I'd eat the food of the best chefs around the world..

3. I'd hire a personal tailor to make clothes especially for me. Clothes that fit perfectly, in luxurious fabrics I found while traveling the world. My white shirts would always be crisp. Even my undergarments would be made from 5000-thread count pure cotton or silk.

It's now 800 million and growing!

Here is my list:

1. Pay my bills and those of close family members, so we can live comfortably and not worry about money ever again.

2. Build the best, state of the art Memory Care facility in my hometown. I would hire and train the best staff, promoting those that work at my cousin's Memory Care unit and pampering the existing residents and staff with lots of nice things.

3. I would build a new plant in my hometown, maybe more, so as to help promote growth in the economy and give people in the community new jobs and a way to support their families. I would love to pay it forward.

Over $800 million?!!! Close to being a billionaire!!! Can you even imagine - the things you could do, the people you could help - the real difference you could make in people's lives? Saturday's I tend to stay home and dig in so I'll be getting my tickets this afternoon. I never go nuts - maybe ten tickets at most. This is one that I figure if it's meant to be even one ticket will do.

Buy a little house on a small bit of land with a stream running through it. Make myself a critter sanctuary, then stash anything left over in savings so I wouldn't have to worry about money ever again. Then I would rewrite my will to make sure anything left when I died would go to people who need it. I like the idea of a cargiver pay-it-forward foundation.

First? Gift all of close buds here a million each! All of us struggle so much with our wacky families the care we provide is the easy part. Each of my kids and grandkids would get a million. I would setup a trust for my mom, under my control so she always has the best care. Each of the twisted siblings and auntie dearest would get a buck each.

Buy a dream home or two. One in warmer winter climates one that has cooler summers. Maybe a mountain home. Buy a new 4-Runner. Setup a non-profit for caregivers so that they always have access to excellent health care. Hmmm... So much more I could do.

I know I said no charity talk but by nature of the people at this site it's unavoidable, I think. I use to plan for charities for Autism - with my millions and millions. Now I want to add dementia and its collateral damage - the families and caregivers. So deserving!

With that much money, I don't think I could sit on the beach for long. I'd have so many things, I'd like to do. As the saying goes, "To whom much is given, much is required." I'd be pretty busy for the rest of my life. Of course, you could hire someone to do it for, but, I think I would like to use my own passions and experience to help the world a better place.

Wow.. what a dream! I think I would love the freedom money could buy me most of all.

First I would quit my job . Probably buy a house for my parents with 24/7 caregivers.. Then I would go take a massive vacation where I am pampered 24/7 .. probably somewhere on a secluded beach.

Then I would block all my "caring relatives" from trying to contact me ....lol

After that.. I would love to put the money to good use. I would create a charity just for us caregivers that would pay for respite and anything else us weary caregivers need...and for a nice vacation where you all could also be pampered excessively ..for a change.

Hmmm.. after that I would like to build a haven for homeless animals.. somewhat of a paradise for them.. and and and....

First thing book a secretary that is really hard nosed and just dumps the begging letters in the bin.
Second - a pre booked ticket to Switzerland in case I am too far gone to be able to book in at Dignities later
Thirdly I would buy 4 huge RVs and go on tour around the US. Each RV would be equipped with 4 carers who are the best at their job and would be paid handsomely for their work. I will come to each of you in turn and exchange them for you and off on hols we go. Country Mouse - you get picked up en route and your role is to pick up those whose care time is over.

Destination? 1 st stop Vegas for those who like to gamble a little, and then on to a luxury spa where you can be pampered every moment of every day if you so wish and be alone if you want to be too.

Then every night we party the night away since we all learned not to sleep years ago!!!!

Bt with that sort of serious money I think I might just set up a caring village where people can live and be cared for that has its own support group for the carers.

That money could provide a lot of Alzheimers, Diabetes an ALS research. Plus, provide a lot of kids with an education.

Sunnygirl - regarding your comment about wanting to manage things yourself - I heard not so long ago that Oprah still personally signs all her checks - smart! If Miss O thinks it's wise, that's good enough for me.

My dream for that jackpot:

1. Have a meeting with my siblings and a separate one with my children to discuss what they need to pay off their homes, cars and all their bills, to make them debt-free.

2. Pay off my parents' home (where I live) and all my own bills and my Mom's.

3. Set up college (or whatever) funds for my one child that is still less than college age and for my grandkids.

4. Purchase property in the U.P. along the shores of Lake Superior and either build or buy existing properties that adjoin each other (trust me, it's possible) so that my entire family can all have their own homes or vacation cabins - whatever they want. I would want a handicap-accessible house for myself and Mom to share.

5. I'd pull Mom out of the NH and take her up to the new home, where she could spend the rest of her days looking out at her beloved Lake Superior, which is where she's always wanted to be. I'd hire a team of private nurses and caregivers to take care of her medical needs so I could truly just be her daughter again, not her caregiver.

And yes...I'm buying tickets. Latest jackpot update is $700 million.

Sorry, I didn't realize there were "rules", as in no giving to family, but my dream stands. That's what I've always planned to do if I ever won something that big. My family have been hardworking people their whole lives, and we've had to struggle for everything they've got - and we still do.

I would disappear. No money for research, charities, family or church.. I would help people directly who are living with autism because the research does not help those who are struggling today, both the caregiver and the person living with autism get help with housing, and daily lives. I would not require people to beg, or qualify for some program to receive help. Neither would I throw money at a problem to solve it. Maybe I could help with other illnesses and issues, but I am already burned out. I like Jude's idea of a village, and RV's. One has to be mobile to disappear.

Im actually quite skeptical about research. You see our bodies, our organs, our skin was not in the grand scheme of things designed to last much past 80 years. We see its decline from about 50 onwards - earlier for some. Do I actually want a decline in my physicality and my brain still be functioning. Im actually quite sure I don't.

One thing I do know is that, for me, a brain without a functioning body must be like a prison sentence. A functioning body but no brain is a prison sentence for those around me. Nope I just don't want to grow old. in fact I would settle at being able to take a pill on my 75th birthday (or earlier depending on my health levels) and then say bye bye world, it was fun while it lasted

I'm with you Jude, tho I would like to see my 80th birthday, health withstanding! I'll help you create that caregivers/care relievers village, picking them up in those Luxury RV's along the way! But first I will need a much needed vacation, say 6-8 weeks, pay off my home, and homes for each of my kids, any debt relief they might have, and college educations paid for, for my Grandies, and for my future Grandies. A total body makeover, tummy tuck, breast lift, masseur and facialist on hand, and a good chef. A personal assistant on standby, tho not up my butt! New cars, ans a luxury yacht, have I spent it all yet? All of my Siblings, 1 million each, and 24 hour maid service, in my new log home on a gorgeous lake, near the caregiving village. Several other log homes for visiting carers. I will request addresses and phone numbers when needed, once I get back from my trip! Good Luck everyone! My number is (***)***-****! I would remodel this falling apart house to include an attached house for the cats and an indoor/outdoor pool. I would buy a decent car, then take off for all parts of the world!! (Someone paid to stay behind and give my Mom luxury care.) When I return, I would buy a beach house and throw a fine party there for the friends and family who are loyal. Come home again, and buy a horse -nice barn for him, too. And goats. Start some cool businesses for my current ID clients-and staff to support them in making the most of their venture.
