You are in my prayers. It is so difficult to not take things personal when someone you care about makes mean comments.Sometimes I have to stop and realize the lady I care for is scared and unable to communicate that to me. No amount of reassurance changes her mood and I feel agitated and defensive. I have to take a few minutes of alone time, and regroup ,pray, and continue on.Keep coming back to this sight and others will be here for you. God bless.

The best thing you can do for yourself is educate yourself on the issue. Their is no one thing that causes it. It can be from alcohol, head injuries or other health problems that are not treated early enough. Don't fear to much until you know everything you need to know about it. Also remember it doesn't hurt to exercise and eat right. I know how your feeling, I just got news this morning that my grandmother has quickly gone down hill with dementia and is childlike in behavior. Not only am I a caregiver for my friends mother with dementia now I have a grandmother with it. It is scary. Educate, educate, educate. Keep in touch with your support groups. One day we'll see an answer.

You have enough on your life's plate to manage without adding worry about future dementia to your list. You can't allow yourself to be so scared of the future that you become paralyzed and unable to function in your present life. Worst case scenario if it were true that you are going to get dementia later in your life, don't you want to start enjoying every single moment now while you are dementia-free? Everything has to be put into rspective. We could worry ourselves to death, but worry changes absolutely nothing. Take a deep breath. Keep sharing.
