I’m watching some Teepa Snow videos on dementia. She was discussing how to no longer reality check people with dementia. Stop arguing, and then this quote jumped out to me:

You gotta quit. Stop. Back up and take a deep breath when you start arguing with someone with dementia.

They can’t reason. They lose memory. It’s not their fault.

Its a good reminder.

I thought about this all night long— the way she redirected this lady and got her to use the bathroom is incredible. I really do have a lot to learn.

Teepa Snow has many great videos and books about dementia. I'm glad you found her.
You will NEVER win an argument with someone with dementia, as their brain is broken and logic doesn't live there any more.
Life is so much better for all involved if you just meet a person with dementia exactly where they are at.
Sadly we all have to learn that the hard way.

I agree. Arguing with someone who can’t reason is only going to frustrate them and yourself.

One of my problems was that I didn’t recognize the early signs of dementia. So, I thought my mother was being contrary. The truth was that she wasn’t able to understand.
