I was discussing with my daughter the other day my need to renovate my kitchen and the fact that I will need to stay somewhere while construction is done.
I have someone who is willing to let me stay for about 2 months, but he is allergic to cats, so...
I will need to rehome my cat for that time. I was discussing this with DD, SIL and grandson. Grandson said "well, we need to take the cat, what else can Nona do?"
My son in law said "there can be many solutions to that problem. WE don't have to be the solution."
I wish everyone saw life this way!

Find Care & Housing
I stayed and worked full time through my kitchen remodel. I had a sink in garage, so set up a temp kitchen out there....dish drain, microwave and coffee maker included. You eat takeout, frozen dinners, etc. For the small fortune you spend to remodel, you should be there as much as possible, to make sure they are working!

They hang up plastic sheets from the ceiling, to block the dust, mess & noise. If they have easy access to coffee, more work gets done.

It shouldn't take longer than 2 weeks, either. You can keep the cat there too. They aren't building the Golden Gate Bridge! If they claim "a month" find a better contractor. Call references too!

Yes, your wise SIL has let you know already...he's not participating.

My husband and I stayed in our house for our kitchen remodel and it was a complete redo. It actually turned out to be fun. Our remodelers were wonderful - even our cat liked them. We still had access to our refrigerator, we microwaved a lot of our food and got along just fine. We set up our kitchen in our dining room.

Barb, I don't know of this is for you.. but my neighbours stayed put through their kitchen reno. Set up a small fridge & small cooking (kettle, toaster, toasted sandwich maker, air fryer) in the lounge. Went out for meals alot & ate more takeaway. May have taken a few weekdays away at an air bnb to escape some of the loud noises, dusy & smells of consteuction.

Yes wise!

My BIL said something similar last week. A good friend has been given notice to vacate (Landlord wants a quick sale). She has been trying to find an appropriate home for her family + Mother in wheelchair, buy or rent. It has been a tough road to take that she is not the only housing solution for her Mother. They need different solutions. My friend is now trying to rent or buy in the tightest rental market & near highest buy prices our city has even seen.

My family has a house we are slowing moving to sell. The heating is unrepairable & winter has now started.. friend needs housing is still keen as it is something until she finds her next home!

BIL rightly said it was not me that is ending her lease. Sure. But I still want to help if I can.
