My mom needs more care and attention than what the facilities offer, even in the smaller homes. There are NO skilled nursing homes and with the quality of care that continues to decline industry wide, I am lost and making myself sick. More regulations and inspections need to be put into place. The things that I have witnessed in these homes are more than sad. My mom was in a rehab to start with which she was ignored, left in her own filth, made her try to walk on her broken ankle, which she broke on their care. The care homes get worse; mom need to be set to the ER numerous of times due to their lack of attention and care. The quality of the food and the cleanliness of the facilities is not acceptable. Unless you are self-efficient in every way, you receive the minimum care. My mom is self pay! Not on Medicaid. It's very expensive, she is not getting what she is paying for. I have moved her three times, I am not able to care for her, or she would be at home with me. The whole industry is a racket and is ripping people off.

I am so sorry to hear this is happening to your mom. The stories I hear and the things I saw while working in a long-term facility makes me sick. I am a 24/7 live in Caregiver. The reason I went from long-term care facilities to a live-in caregiver is because I did not like seeing the things that I saw. I really do pray that you are able to find a good place for your mom that will provide her with the Care and comfort, compassion and patience that she needs

It seems our OP doesn't have any question here for us, but wishes to discuss the current status of LTC.

I just stumbled onto your post, sorry to hear this. I take care of my wife at home, she is early onset late stage Alzheimer's. Despite the challenges, I feel that she get's the best attention here. We were responsible for her dad 14 years ago after her mother died, her dad had FTD. We enrolled him at 3 different facilities in the span of a year before he passed away. The services at each of these facilities then were inadequate and poorly managed. One facility had a director who was later arrested for fraudulent management of residents' Social Security payments. I know others here in town who have paid for their spouse or parent to be in the highest-cost facility, these folks complain about the poor attention their family member receives and the regular phone calls from staff telling them that they are having issues with the resident. If it helps to vent, keep on doing it for your mental health. I have resolved to know I am in a situation with little rest and an unknown timeframe, this is the plight of millions of family members who are in similar situations. I pray for God to help you through.
