No question, I’m just so excited! My husband was in the Army for only a year but he still gets a few benefits. One is 6 weeks of Respite in a facility each year and tomorrow he goes for his first week!!!!! I’m over the moon, it’s been such a year! I am in year 3 of a 3-5 year survival rate with my cancer and he had hydrocephalus last year and it was 3 months of falls and walking problems and refusal to be diagnosed until the day came he fell and could not move. The FD was there for the 12th time and after I had a snot slinging breakdown, he agreed to go to ER. 2 wks in hospital, 5 in rehab, home for 2 months then back to hospital with pneumonia and rehab. He’s incontinent, chronic diarrhea and I am just worn down and when he says “you don’t do anything, what do you do?” I’ve learned to just walk away and eat chocolate. But now I will get a week to myself when I need it and the world looks brighter all of a sudden. House cleaner comes Monday, carpet and upholster cleaner Tuesday then it’s just me and my dog with 3 free days in a clean and orderly home for a change.

God bless you! Enjoy! Well deserved! I cared for my retired Veteran until death and we had never set foot in the VA until he was diagnosed.

My husband is a 100 percent service connected Marine “boots on the ground” Vietnam veteran. He was just certified a few months ago and it has been a God-send!

In addition to respite care, he goes to Health Day Care (only available in a few areas) on Wednesday and Friday. He enjoys it, it keeps him from wanting to sleep all the time, plus I can get groceries and run errands with peace of mind, knowing he is well cared for.
