Good news!

My mom's doctor said there is a new medicine that is being fast-tracked by FDA. He said during trials that people on it actually got memory back and the improvement was so good they felt it wasn't fair to those on the placebo. So it's being fast tracked and should be available by the end of this year.

OMG! That is SUCH great news! What specific disease is this new drug for?
I heard something about one of these meds too. I can't recall the name of it, but, will try get the name of the company that is producing it. I hope that it meets expectations.  I think that it is only for those with Alzheimers though, right? So, it wouldn't treat those who have dementia due to strokes, Vascular VD.

I read that there are actually at least two that are being fast tracked. One is from Eli Lilly and there is another from another company. Sounds exciting!
I did a search for new Alzheimer's medicines being developed and found a 12 page list of drugs in development, ranging from phase 1 to phase 3 trials. There is no doubt that science has been seeking understanding of the disease process and the pharmaceutical industry have been racing to find better treatments (and cash in of course). Google says phase 3 trials generally last 3 years, so we still have a way to go.
