I am in th medical field and I've had Fibromyalgia many year. I know I have to respect it and NOT try to deny that it is there. I have a new internal medicine doctor and she really wants me off my Fibromyalgia medications. I am 68 and I only take 5 medicines in all. I have Restless Legs, hypothyroid, hypertension and Fibromyalgia. With 1 for hypothyroidism, 1 for hypertension, one for Restless Legs, that leaves 2 mg (1/2 of a pill) for zanafles (a muscle relaxer) and 1 mg of Clonopin my cardiologists gave me for my Left Bundle Block in my heart, kind of like Mitral Prolapse. The pain of Fibromyalgia is extremely painful and it creates Insomnia. I am so tired from the pain and insomnia. I feel this is redicilious since I am a nurse and realize an occasional Lortab and 1/2 of an Ambien when I can't sleep is not abusing drugs. The pain can be almost unbearable at times. Plus, I have no help and a very ill husband. She is a new doctor and I hate to switch but I can see she is a woman a of very few words and gives me minute amount of her time. Plus, she is simply too with drawn and quiet for me. I know this is not good care and I don't trust her.

I, also, have fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. It took me literally 20 years to get the fibro diagnosis ...went from doctor to doctor, knowing something was wrong. There are medications out now (I currently take Cymbalta) that, even though is marketed as an anti-depressant, are used to treat Fibromyalgia. I would be surprised if you aren't suffering from depression as many patients with Fibro do . I would suggest that you ask a friend or family member of the name of a family practitioner who they trust and then make an appt. Don't leave the office without at least some samples of Lyrica or Cymbalta. If you feel better, sleep better, then ask for a RX. I can't say that the meds make me feel 100%; I still have the RA to deal with, but they do help with the muscle pain, etc. associated with Fibro. Good luck to you!

If you do not trust her or feel comfortable move on, that is your right! Do not even think a minute of it, the doctor would not think a minute of it, so why should you. I have heard that Fibromyalgia can be very painful and I would think that you need a physician that understands this. Do not stress about this, just move on, and ask one of your RN friends or physicians for a referral to a specialist who is going to listen to YOU. Doctors are about the almighty dollar these days, in and out on to the next patient, worried about their DEA number, and not YOU the patient, so just move on and do not think a thing about it.

Blessings,
Bridget
