Good Idea Bob.
My failure of the day was not going out for milk before 9 am, when the snow started. Now I will have to trek though 14 inches tomorrow.

The dentist called early to cancel my appt. That made me happy.

My accomplishments were a deep cleaning of Mom's room, and cooking a great snowy night dinner of beef tips in gravy over rice, with green beans, and biscuits, with a home made cherry vanilla cheese cake for dessert.

Best news of the day......Momma had a very happy day and laughed and made me laugh more than a few times.

The funniest was when she, after half a can, mind you, looked into her beer (in a white white plastic cup) saw the foam, and yelled....WHY ARE YOU GIVING ME MILK???WE ARE LOW ON MILK!!!!

Um, Mom........and the look......took her a minute but when she got it she busted a gut.

Went to a great cooking class. Expect to make 3 of the 4 recipes .. and unusually high appeal rate. (Watercress soup was unexpectedly nummy.)

My big accomplishment was getting up at 8:30 AM.. I usually sleep way too late and find my butt drags all day long. Dang! I'm only 62! When I get really old, I'm moving in with BoniChak if she serves BEER every day :-)

reminds me of the time mom picked up some fresh pork with which to make beans. she bought some rather premium pork rib tips then asked for bbq'd ribs first. i hooked her up. boiled em till they were falling off the bone then hit em with sauce. nothing makes a cooking buff happier than treating someone else to something nice. we dont have to brag. the forks clicking on the plates says it all..

Good thread Capt
Haven't accomplished much today except spending all morning on this site.
No that's not true I found a great site where you can download free clip art and another one for living out of your pantry. Some great frugal soup recipes and the advice that if you go to the fridge and there is no food give it a good clean and your spirits will rise when you see the results!!!!!!!! Not sure I believe that.
yesterday I made my second visit to the Podiatrist. I would have started sooner if I had realized Medicare covered it. Nothing like a bit of pampering and cheerful conversation.. Capt I don't like cinnamon could you make me some without please?
Boni no longer allowed alcohol but wish I would join you even if it is in a plastic cup although I can still be trusted with a glass.
Ladee M I am sure Gene understood, he loves you too much to be upset.
Great failures no none so far today but it is only half over.

well veronica, they could just be rolled full of apple bits. i need to go to town to sign an estate agreement but it is dangerously cold outside.
havent had a drink of booze in over 2 weeks. quite an accomplishment for a lifelong drinker. oh ill stumble again, then ill battle with it again, then stumble again. its ok. ive learned to accept that i have weaknesses and limitations.
my condolences to the 3 moderators whom i assume have been laid off.

Capt! I've been wondering why your post have been more understandable and your spelling has improved lately! LOL! Good for you! Your green bean recipe sounds yummy, I will try it that way.

We wound up with 14 inches, so I went and stocked up supplies. -10 with wind chill in my face, but it's done!
Shoveled the back porch so the dog from hell could get out. It didn't stop him from peeing on the floor 10 minutes later.
Mom's a little cranky today, but who can blame her. Even though we never go out, it bothers her that we can't if we wanted to.
Baby lamb chops, twice baked potatoes, and peas (yuk) for dinner. Still have cheese cake, although it was only ok, not great.
I haven't had any failures....yet, but it's still early.
How is YOUR day going?

love twice baked / stuffed potatoes. i ladle hamburger gravy with green beans, crumbled cheese atop them and reheat. that IS the meal when i make em, no other dishes. i touched base with the tax lady again, signed the attorney estate forms AND came home with no booze. i love booze but i dont want to clock out early and leave my sons my hard won possessions. neither of them have paid the dues that i have. ill get me a handfull of zans in a couple of days bony and get back to what i do best. annoying people. lol

Well, I called out from work today... LOL Went in Mon (my back is out because we did the final move out from my parents house..too much lifting) because I didn;t want to call out on a holiday, then went in Tues because they were calling for snow and I did't want to be "that person". Drove home in snow ( 90 minutes) and said the Heck with it. Took it easy with the folks, ran the fireplace, gave the back break. It's not really feeling better, but my mental health is!!

pam,
in the late 70's when the economy was pretty flaky i saw a newsperson interviewing people in a park asking them what they thought of the beautiful early summer day. one wiseass , bout 30 yrs old told em it made him wish he had a job so he could skip out of work. i guess his smirk was what made it so comical.

LOL . Plus my Dad's caregiver called out both days for the snow (we are very rural) So I had a double FMLA reason to call out! I do feel a bit guilty, but my health is important too.

worked for a lady a few years ago who said her former manufacturing company moved operations from indiana to tennessee because they surmised that more impoverished people would be more dedicated and miss less work. it was good in theory but she said come a nice spring day the hill folk were GOING fishin. he he

I shoveled a crap load of snow so my husband wouldn't have to when he got home from work!!

Failure: I pissed Mom off but luckily she forgot about it!!

Had my Failure.....and it's a big one. I'm setting Mom's room up for bedtime, couldn't find remote, pulled out her reading chair to look and CRASH. There was a large vase, filled with MARBLES and plastic lilies (ya know, like from the 80's) on the shelf behind her chair. Vase didn't break, so no broken glass, but 10000000000 MARBLES everywhere!!!!
Those who don't know my situation...Mom is 50% walker and 50% wheelchair, almost blind with moderate dementia, and she FORGETS in the middle of the night , that she cant walk. A room full of marbles is a disaster waiting to happen. LSS....picked up each and every one of them. My knees hurt and I'm going to bed! Night all!

Where is everybody this morning. had to go out at 6am as hubby had his first cataract done. All went well apart from the surgeon having to tell him to shut up while she was trying to operate. I managed to keep quiet while he told me where all the slick spots would be found and where I could park at the hospital.
so I guess that was my success for today

Accomplishment: Scheduled a brunch party for next month, for my large family.

Before Coy developed dementia we used to have the entire family over about once a quarter for "Sunday dinner at Gramma's" As he declined it became too much for me to play hostess as well as caregiver. I intended/hoped to resume the practice after he died. It has taken a whole year for me to feel up to it, so I'm feeling pleased to be offering Sunday Brunch at Gramma's in a few weeks.

I have to say I am now realizing that I have achieved three things. Mom is talking to me again. I now realize that she is out of another angry and depressed mood swing. She goes into it every other week about. I understand now that it is that. This makes it much easier now for me to cope, and give her space. I cannot reach her anyway when she is in this mood. I knew about this phenomenon, but never realized the reality. That is my happiest achievement today. The third one: I finished trimming the weeds in the whole yard. I do it with shears so I can have more exercise. I leave a low layer so there's no mud when walking outside.

Veronica, Yes, you will feel satisfied after you see your clean fridge. I know I do.

Captain, I like this thread. Thank you for the idea.

Accomplishment was that I went on first job interview.
Failure (which I really hate to admit but maybe I should) was that in trying to help dad get out of the kitchen chair (because he was sore), the chair tipped and went over on side, spilling out Dad. He is okay, but I feel like the world's worst caregiver.

wth, i think we need to note our small accomplishments and acknowlege our shortcomings in order to improve ourselves. i actually accomplished 3 things today -- i came home without booze again. im pissed at my kid. im determined to live to 100 now so he cant pawn off and pee away my hard earned home, equiptment and such. i wrote a little hymn about him, its goes like this;
hymmmmn,
hymmmmn,
F**K Hymmmmn..
