Took my mom to her annual checkup today and she had diarrhea 3 times. I caught her tearing out the wet part of her Depends before we left her AL and made her change it, thank goodness. I’m frustrated bc she won’t stop doing this (easier than changing the Depend), wont ask for help changing her Depends, won’t stop drinking morning OJ and eating candy which gives her diarrhea, now forgetting to clean her dentures or charge her hearing aids, and the AL won’t help with any of this.
We’re going to try adding daily Imodium but that doesn’t address the real issue that she won’t accept or ask for help with her ADLs and is not able to take care of herself. She also protested at the idea of moving again, after complaining bitterly for months about one thing or another and almost demanding that she move. I’m so me mentally exhausted I had to take the rest of the day off from work which is another huge stressor. I’m so tired of being responsible for her. The mini cog text came back better than last year!

GSDlover and Shirley, OMG, I feel your pain, unfortunately.

I try to keep some of those disposable bedliners from the hospital in the car too. The minute Mom says "well I had diarrhea," I go "hang on a minute" and try to put one down on her seat before she gets in the car.

ShirleyDot and SRWCF, I am always amazed about a 29 on the Montreal mini cog--and thats because she could never draw so she goofs up the clock drawing showing whatever o'clock. Then she tells the neurologist she could never draw and is bad at spatial relations, and the doc goes "Me too! Almost a perfect score."

Ugh, I feel you! My mother is difficult too, she has to take Imodium everyday or it’s explosive! She has diverticulosis, it’s from her crappy diet. I make her wear a diaper when she goes in my car anywhere. Carry extra ones and paper towels.

I feel for you! I literally threw my hands up in the air and stepped WAY back from all of my Mom's craziness the moment her doctor's office called me to report that she had passed her mini cognitive exam "with flying colors."
