My hubs was toggling between this documentary and a Stanley Cup hockey game so I only caught pieces of it. For anyone interested:
"Aging in America: Survive or Thrive."
This one-hour PBS documentary, narrated by Martin Sheen, explores the challenges and opportunities presented by America's rapidly aging population. It delves into critical issues such as ageism, healthcare disparities, economic insecurity, and Alzheimer's disease, drawing inspiration from Dr. Robert Butler's Pulitzer Prize-winning book, "Why Survive?"
The film highlights the demographic shift where, for the first time, Americans aged 65 and older are projected to outnumber those under 18 within the next decade. It examines how the current healthcare system, originally designed for acute care, is adapting to meet the chronic needs of an older population. Additionally, it addresses the growing concern of economic insecurity among adults over 50, who now represent the fastest-growing segment of the homeless population—a number that could triple by 2030.
"Aging in America: Survive or Thrive" is available to stream on PBS.org and through the PBS App on various devices. Check your local PBS station's schedule for upcoming airings."
I know they seemed to highlight the PACE program, among others.
We are more buffered here because of our public healthcare system and social programs; nevertheless, many elderly people face economic challenges.
