I recommend LIFE ALERT! My dad has dementia and when he was first diagnosed we shopped around for some kind of medical alert system. We ended up choosing Life Alert and we were very pleased with the service.

They are always on top of things every time dad pushes the button. What was more surprising is their cost is very competitive, actually inexpensive! And we didn’t have to compromise on the quality of the service for dad based on cost.

Also, because they’re a reputable company with a trusted name, and have been around for so long, and have an A+ with the BBB, we felt secure in going them. I know that might sound corny but when you’re dealing with putting the life of a loved one in the hands of someone else, you really need to look for security and reliability.

The bottom line is we went with the best and we haven’t regretted it!

There is an excellent unit out ther with NO monitoring service or fees. I got one for my mom & it's great!!!!
I believe it's called LIFELINE. (google it)
It costs $200.00 (basic) and works on the premis that when the button is pushed it auto dials 4 phone #s sequentially. After testing the unit I put 911 as the first call & mine as the second....It plays the recorded message you leave to whoever answers first.
Much more info. on the website.
Do the math and you'll realize the savings in monitor fees are tremendous. Easy set up too.

I got my mother Life Alert and we both are very pleased with it. She has accidentally pushed the button a couple of times, but I think that actually added to her confidence of the unit because her calls were answered quickly and the operators always very polite. My mother's only complaint is she doesn't like wearing it in the shower and then having a damp cord around her neck. I pay the monthly fee and the people who set up the unit were wonderful.

I highly recommend Lifeline. My 92 year old mother first had the button on her wrist, and used it when she fell. They were very responsive and helpful. Then Lifeline came out with new technology, and for a bit more a month, she got a button that is worn around her neck and automatically senses a fall; the elder does not have to push it. She fell twice in one week, and it worked both times. Of course, she finally broke her hip, and is now living with me!

VRI is the company we used. It has a battery backup in case the electricity goes out. It is also compatible with cable phones however, if the electricity goes out it won't work.

I highly recommend Alert1 - they are professional, courteous and have worked fantastically for my mother and father separately. Their cost was much better then Life Alert - and I found Life Alerts people pushy. Not to mention they wanted a 3 year contract! Given the age of my parents that's not an option. I would go with Alert1 and have recommended it to all my friends for their parents.

Global Senior Tracker is a product that is available that the senior does not even have to push the button! so I have the peace of mind if my Father falls and cannot press "the button" i will still be alerted! It also works no matter where he is, home, going for a walk, at the ball game, etc.. it is cellular and works anywhere! The price is about the same and the features are so much better! I feel so much more secure knowing i don't have to rely on him being at home and hitting the button!

We use a service owned by a local security company. Our folks wear buttons, but when they are pushed, it goes to a local switchboard in town. The price was right, but we already had an alarm system set up in the house.

We had one for Mom that was out of Mass. It was good but she never did understand it or use it.
