I really need to put my father in a nursing home, He is falling all the time the other day he tried to pee in his shoe. And I just can't do it anymore it's a 24/7 job and I just don't have the strenght anymore to do.
I have gone to VA web site but I must say it's not very helpful

Is he already in the VA healthcare system? I have found that my Dad's primary care physician's office is really helpful, if you question them in person. Can you get an appointment for him, and the night before, write the doc through MyhealtheVet (if your Dad is registered for it; if not GET registered at that appointment because it's a really useful way to access information, generally and specifically). When you talk to the doc and office staff, stress that DAD is not safe at home because you can't do the care the way he needs. It's not about you, it's a bout him. I bet they can connect you to the right phone numbers and resources to get started. It takes a long time, between start and finish, to access the services, but it's a huge system.
Good luck!

this is question is forf my husband. He is 74 and was in the army after the korean war. He is interested in seeing about getting hearing aides and if any dental is offered through VA and what are his chances of even qualifying. He does plan on visiting the nearest VA office but also dont want to make a wasted trip. Anyone know if VA is accepting non combat veterans at this time? Thank you

Since He is registered with the VA ask his Primary who is his Social Worker since she/he would be the contact person to do the paperwork for the nursing home or assisted living, They do have programs to help with the expense, like a pension that is income eligible that will pay for long term care (nursing home)and Aid and Attendance which the doctor has to fill out paperwork.

oh forgot the pension and Aid and Attendance don't kick in to fast it can take up to 8-9 months but if he has Medicare part A they will cover nursing/assisted living homes until the VA his primary just has to fill out paperwork that say's he is in need of being there. Good luck....

It's my understanding that you can only get dental care for service connected issues, through the VA.

yeah I did check that its really not very clear on if he would qualify for anything. Probably will need to get into VA and find out but I understand the waits are long if you can even get someone to talk to him.

Dear Play, the waits ARE long. But the care is good, and thorough. And you can't beat the price.

your husband can enroll at anytime, only G.i. housing and education have a time limit. What area of the country are u in, because in the last couple of years they've opened alot of clinics and you don't need an appointment ,just go and sign in at the business office under health benefits . talk to your fellow vets while your there and good luck!
