Find Care & Housing
First, let me express to you how wonderful I think it is that you have chosen to take care of your great-grandmother. There may be times that you may think you made a mistake, but in the long run, you will have gained so much from the time you spend with her. On to your question...it depends on your State, but check your State's website and see if they are offering any courses, check with your local Red Cross, Dept. of Human Services, and your local Technology Center. Have you looked through the tabs on this website?

Hi youngcaregiver. I know how overwhelming things may seem, especially when you first start taking care of someone who is ill or just needs that extra attention. freelancewriter gave some wonderful advice, especially about checking out the tabs on this website. I went to the one labeled "Caregiver Support" and clicked on "New to Caregiving" and found one of the articles that I thought might interest you. https://www.agingcare.com/articles/caregiver-stress-getting-help-149188.htm There are so many more there that are helpful as well. The act of caregiving is an up and down roller coaster ride, but knowing you are the one who stepped up to help your great-grandmother is a wonderful feeling. Although, just to give you a heads up, there will most likely be days where you have a few regrets, and if you do it is completely normal. We all go through a variety of emotions, good and bad. It's all normal. If you ever need advice or need to vent, we are all here to listen. I encourage you to not be afraid to ask for help, ever. Although, I did notice that you are already asking for help, so that is awesome. I made the mistake of trying to do it all on my own at first, and believe me when I tell you that was a bad decision. Have you tried calling up caregiving agencies in your area? They can be of big help, especially to new caregivers as well. Depending on finances, you may even be able to get paid to take care of your great-grandma too if you do need extra finances that is. It would have to go through long-term care if she is on it though. God bless you for your hard work in taking care of your great-grandmother.

Hello to you,
I took a Personel Support Worker course at a local college. It was an eight month course. I learned so much and really enjoyed it also. I took the course so I would be a professional caregiver to my aging Mother. I do care for her (with other help) and I work out of the home with my new skills. If you are able to take a course I would highly recommend it. There is a lot involved in caring for the aged so you will get along much better with more information under your belt.
Good for you to share your caring heart.
