My dad passed away 4 years ago and ever since, my mom has not been the same. She has become more and more irrational and displaying erratic behavior, unexpetable behavior. She never stays at home, imposes herself on others and has very bizarre coping mechanisms. She's close to being broke but won't take the necessary steps to gain control of her finances. At first, I thought I was just being an impatient daughter but then I received 2 concerning phone calls from her close friends and realized that my brothers and I need to intervene. We are having an intervention this weekend and I have a feeling that she is going to resist treatment, as she doesn't think she has a mental illness (she suffered from a chemical imbalance in 1963 and has not taken medication since 1966). If anyone has any advice on how to hold the intervention, it would be much appreciated. I'm also wondering how, if need be, we can take control of her finances while she is still living (she lives in IN)?
