My mother is losing her hearing and is very mean. What to do?

Well, the obvious first thing is to get her earing aides. That is so obvious I assume you've tried to and aren't having success. Is that the case?
What are Mother's other impairments?
Is the "very mean" condition something new, or has she been that way all of her life? Do you think it is related to her hearing?
Give us a little more background, for more specific answers.
