How can I be a better caregiver for my mother?

Asked by

My mother has been living with my husband and I for about 18 months now. I am starting to feel the stress of it. She is 83 years old and has done well until the last few years. She moved in when she broke her hip. Now is losing her short term memory. I repeat things all day long and everyday it is the same. We have a homemaker come in daily for a few hours. That worked at first but slowly I can see myself being drained. Right now I am attending college, but at this point I do not see myself returning to work. I love my mother very much. I just do not see how people do it for years. I need advice on helping me be a better caregier. Right now I am getting short with her and leaving the room to have some private time for myself.
Can anyone give me any advice on how to better myself for her.
