How do siblings get help for elderly mother being taken care of by bipolar brother?

My brother and elderly mother live in another state away from myself and two other siblings. He has been diagnosed with bipolar but refuses to get help. He is verbally abusive to my mother and to anyone who visits. We are very worried as he has already stolen $7,000.00 from her. He also owns a gun and has threatened suicide. My mother enables and protects him because we believe, she is scared of him. We are all afraid to stay at her house now because he comes in the bedroom in the middle of the night. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Amen, we have tried to get help for my verbally abusive 65 yr old brother towards anyone, but especially our 91 yr old mother. When he is angry, she retreats or cowers. Police wont do anything because after they are called, she says he wont hurt her while he gives us our heads on a platter. Tried elder abuse, they are all a joke. One push from him and it is over, so I am going to ck with attorney; otherwise, this is her choice. He has been bipolar since 8, never kept a job long, general dismissal from service, abusive to our father and mother changed her trust to give him all including being her executor/trustee, but yet, I cone to her home for months to take care of her big problems. Pain mgt, back surgery, stimulator in back, prrvious colon cancer and now uterus cancer. Im away from my home, husband and she refuses to leave him because she cleans, cooks, laundry for him while he "bitches", his main job in life. Any real suggestions?

I would call Adult Protective Services in your mother's county and explain the situation. It sounds like Brother needs help, but it may be very difficult to convince him. APS may not be able to do much if Mother isn't straight-forward about what is going on at home, but ask their advice on what else you can do.

Who has POA-I would think you could report him to someone-the police or social service since you know he is abusive to her -she needs to get away from him even if it is placement-I would see a lawyer.
