My mom has congestive heart failure and is taking meds. She has no energy, no appetite, burps constantly, says she feels like she is full of air, she is on 3 liters of oxygen. What is she burping from?

It could be the meds, but she may have something else going on. She should probably see her doctor if she is burping an abnormal amount.

A non-medical remedy that works for my Mom, when she has mild indegestion, upset stomach, or nausea, are mints that are made with pure peppermint oil (like Altoids). Then she can use them as needed. Also, limiting her intake of coffee and soda - both have a lot of acid.

If she has had a recent med. change this could do it, too. I agree with Carol, if it persists or gets worse call her doc.

My mom constantly burps too. All day long, all day long. I thought it was strange too. Her care giver said it's good because she's releasing gas but I think I'm gonna mention it to her doctor, or perhaps my sister will mention it.

my dad burped alot and then sometimes it was followed up with throwing up partically after a good meal. It got worse and worse until he had a full-blown heart attack. He had a triple by-pass and after that the nausea stopped as did the extreme burping. I feel as though it was a clue to his heart disease. Remember you know your mom better than any doctor, they go by text books. It is hard to find a good hairdresser much least agreat doctor who actually cares. Most of them are so young they have not aclue being older. Doctors make a whole lot of mistakes. My dad said hospitals kill about as many people as they help, you need to be with your loved ones at all times, don't assume that the paid help care as much as you do.

ELAINE:

Laying down all the time, particularly after meals, is not good for proper digestion. When your tailpipe is backed up, burping a lot is common for a lot of people. Also when they don't eat enough. She has no energy and is too tired to chew, so puree her food if you have to and keep track of her bowel movements. Hope that helps.

My dad does that alot, we asked his dr. He said that all of his patients that have had a stroke or dementia burbs alot.
For dad he felt like it was from the stroke, since that is when it started. But, you know, he also has congestive heart disease.
sooooo, ummmmm, i wonder.
Mom would give Dad pepto bismol or malanta if he complained of heart burn.

Thanks for that info about your Dad, we will check with the dr to see if he can do a test to see if she has had a stroke at some point.

My mother-in-law doesn't burp so much, but she does fart pretty good. It's like, putt- putt -putt- down the hall. So if I had to choose, I'd take the burping if they have to release some air. :)

We had my Mom stop using straws which helped her with the burping.

My Mom burps all the time and seems oblivious to it. Doctor said to give her a probiotic. I also give her chewable fiber tabs. Gasx didn't help. I think she swallows air.

Why does my mother constanly burps

Sounds like she is swallowing air "Aerophagia". Discuss this with the MD and the oxygen therapy company. Swallowed oxygen doesn't do you much good.
