Find Care & Housing
If you were married to him for 23 years you should get his social security I think.

Have you contacted the VA? Are any of the children still minors/dependents? If so, they qualify for benefits even if the divorced spouse does not. Not knowing if the veteran is deceased, the social security benefits are available to spouses that were married more than 10 years. You would need documentation of marriage and divorce. The VA has reps that work with dependents and former dependents. In terms of VA pension, that is based on surviving spouse that was in place at the time of death. And I am sorry to say that divorced military spouses frequently don't reap the benefits just as spouses of non-military spouses get left behind. My mother went through the same thing. If veteran is still alive, money as I understand it only goes to a divorced spouse if kids are involved. But ask the VA if there might be some exception you qualify for - but do it before the shutdown!
