Because it's depressing, stinky and sad that's why the average person doesn't like to visit anyone in a nursing home. BUT having said that, the person needs to think about how they would feel if the shoe were on the other foot, and no one came to see them cause it's unpleasant.

Some nursing homes can be depressing, and smelly places to visit, truthfully. They are like walking into a brick wall, Other than visitors, no one seems to be genuinely interacting with elders in any meaningful way. Staff is busy working. Residents are not treated like the customers they are and need to be. They are more invisible in nursing homes than in society-at-large. Other nursing homes are better, but nursing homes need a major overhaul, in my opinion, especially given al of the money they charge for residency. We all deserve better is my opinion.

ajasken, if you work in a nursing home, or a nursing home administrator, I applaud you for asking a question that more nursing home administrators and staff should be asking the general public. I appreciate this opportunity to be candid about how nursing homes look, smell, and feel. Some prisons look better in documentaries than some nursing homes. I'm with lhardebeck. Thank God I have no one in a nursing home, and if I can possibly avoid it, it will not happen, either. I can only pray and hope that it will never happen.
