Find Care & Housing
Wow! I am surprised at how many folks are asking this question. At the risk of folks, including yourself, taking offense...I am just going to respond with a question..."don't you think you've already been paid????" Did your parents charge you for raising you? It's the cycle of life. Who will take care of you when the time comes? Do YOU have children??? If you become infirm and NOT of sound mind, would THEY take care of you??? Would you want them to CHARGE you??? I just can't comprehend this question coming from SO many people. WHYYYY????? There's something wrong here. You folks want to get PAID for taking care of your ELDERLY parents???? UH....ok....:-(

ktrafnel, I believe you are missing the point of what so many people are asking. I myself am in this position. I became unemployed twice over the last five years do to the places I worked for closing down. The love of my life passed away in 2008, my dad whom I spent taking care of for a year and a half due to his having cancer passed away in 2009 and my mom broke her leg and had to have surgery the same day dad died. During this time I spent looking for jobs but taking care of and being there for the love of my life, my dad and my mom. I used what money I recieved from unemployment, and my savings to live on while looking for a new job and taking care of my loved ones. I still have not found a job, which to me is just unreal because I have a lot of experience in customer service, but here in Indiana and probably many other places one's age plays a factor. My mom has become worse medically and needs a lot more help but wants the security of myself or another family member to take care of her because she doesn't feel right with others who she does not know taking care of her. So here I am, no job, no savings left, no unemployment, so I am stuggling just to pay for the basics. I would love to take care of mom and give her the best attention she so well deserves and wants, however when one has nothing financially to live on life makes it impossible.
I can't speak for the others who have asked this question, I know I would feel wierd about asking to be paid for taking care of mom, however I really don't know what else to do since I am taking care of her it does take away from being able to look as hard as I need to in order to find another job to pay the bills.
Maybe this will put a little light on the reason some may be asking this question. Just saying. Just a thought.
