I know we're supposed to ask questions but I only have statements to share.

I was a caregiver to my mom (with dementia) for 3+ years and joined this site about 2 years ago. I found it very helpful to read and write to people who got it when I felt little support from my personal circle. My mom just passed away 2 weeks ago at 90 and it's still very shocking. It's so weird to now read about everyone's current experience as mine is now in the past. However, I decided to continue to read and post in hopes that I may be able to help someone in their journey and what a journey it's been but I am so very honored and grateful to have been there for my dear beloved mom and I have no regrets for the 'sacrifices' I made to take care of her. My caregiving continues for my 93 yo dad although he's healthy thank goodness so the level of caregiving is quite different right now than my mom required. Thank you for allowing me to write this and for reading this and I wish all of you out there comfort, support and love.

Wannek, I am so sorry for your loss. You will face ups and downs for the next year or so. It has been seven months since my 97 yo mother passed, and I made it through the Holidays with only a few sad moments.

Wannek, I am sending you my deepest sympathy to you and your family. I too lost my Mom about 2 weeks ago. No matter how prepared you think you are and have hospice help, it still comes as a shock when it happens. Then there is the road after where we have to deal with all. I often experience a roller coaster of emotions. I don't know how I could have gotten through the last year without all the great caregivers here on AgingCare. Know that you did a tremendous thing caring for your Mom, and still are in continuing to care for your Dad. I believe that only another caregiver can truly understand our experience. We caregivers are unique and special people. {{Hugs}}, Katie.

Thank you all for your warm responses. Yes FF it's true, who knows what my journey with my dad will be as we all know how quickly scenarios change. It's comforting to know we have a place here and people who care. Thanks again.
