Life is short and death inevitable so I was surprised to see on a headstone. She was all a wife and mother ought to have been.

Ought, OUGHT? I would have come back and haunted till all eternity whoever had the bright idea of putting that on my headstone.

I am going to be cremated so no headstone for me but I did think that if I were to have one it would be something like.

Here rests the phoenix who rose time and again from the ashes but fell to the cold heart of the state.

(Remember Im a Brit and I am not criticising US)

Or possibly the most likely one - I told you she would be the death of me

What would you have on your headstone?

My husband's mother wants to have a 'green burial', when you just lie down in the forest and die, back to the earth one might say. Guess if we could find her in the forest we could write something nice on a rock nearby?

Headstone could read:

"You are left behind, ha ha ha,ha ha!"

Returning now to the brat thread. Sorry.

Wouldn't mind being a dead wi-fi access point?

Headstone could read:
"Ckick on Like this"

No headstone because this treehugger plans to cremate and serve as tree fertilizer. So maybe a sign like this? Please don't chop down this tree, Rachelle helped to make it happen and is hanging out in its leaves.

I think I will definitely have a plaque pinned on a tree that says -
Never mind Care Skills...Care Kills

Windy, Your post is humorous. It is lying there, just begging for the truth. It is very funny, imo.

What about cremation, then being buried, just so there is a place with a name on it, so your future relatives will not feel a void if they want to do a family tree. The epitaph could read: So heavenly minded no earthly good, but she was really really here.

Sendme - that reminds me of when hubby and I first discussed funeral etc. Hubby had a hard time with me not being buried. When I asked him why he said "I'd like to have a place to go visit you". I replied "Why on earth do you think I'd be there"?

Cwillie,
Me too, I love the bench idea. If I were to have a tombstone, it would have to read: "She is not here...".

I think the whole concept of acres covered in tombstones is crazy. Turn it all into parkland... I' rather to be planted amongst trees and trails, with benches that invite quiet contemplation and grassy areas where kids can chase butterflies.

Cremation for me as well. Interesting sprinkle zones? I told hubby to toss me off the roof of the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. It's where we eloped and honeymooned - those were the happiest days of my life.

Some humorous epitaphs from Hollywood:

"I will not be right back after this message"
-Merv Griffin

Jack Lemmon
In....
(and yes, that's all there is on the stone....)

"There goes the neighborhood"
-Rodney Dangerfield

"That's All Folks..."
-Mel Blanc (voice of Bugs Bunny & many other Looney Toons)

"I am ready to meet my maker. Whether my maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter."
-Winston Churchill

As for mine....I guess I haven't thought that far ahead yet, but I am thinking that I will follow my parents' example, since I've spent so much time caring for both throughout their later lives, and be cremated, and my ashes spread in the same place. So no epitaph for me, though I'd kind of love to write my own obit and let certain family members know just how difficult this caregiving gig was without any help!

I won't have a tombstone as I plan on cremation. But since I work in the technology field, I always have giggled about having my tombstone as a wi-fi access point ... to give people a reason to visit. Hah!

Or, maybe have one of those motion detectors in the stone and whenever someone passes by, have a recording of my voice play ... lol

Oh love these - isn't it great to share fabulous humour - and it takes me out of the humdrum. I think I would have a headstone with a metal xylophone on one side and a drum on the other and invite anyone to play them. I might not have been musical while alive .......
