Find Care & Housing
The Caregiver of the day can be posted by anyone! Waiting for others to participate in this fun thread, I am once again going to mention someone.
However, I challenge others to answer this mystery.
Who is a good and loyal friend to others, but would like to be known as bad?
Who gives really good advice for a long time now, and calls us hun?
Who has an extensive range of knowledge and skills, in many areas, but chooses to caregive out of a deep moral compass and love?
Who knows how to advise others for future employment, but may not consider a career in culinary arts for herself?
Who has recently sprouted wings and we better name her fast, before she flys away.?
Post your answers below please.

All I can say is that everyone who's replied to or participated in anything I've posted here has been wonderful and very, very helpful. It's nice to have a place to discuss, question and vent. I'm quite fortunate to have several very dear friends in my life, but unless you've gone through any of this it can be tough to understand. The knowledge and wisdom I've gained along the way will surely be passed on to my loved ones if and when it happens to their parents or loved ones.

If you give us time, everyone can be mentioned by name. Not a popularity contest by any means. You work just as hard and sacrifice just as much without notice, so yes, you deserve to be mentioned.
However, this is just an 'honorable mention' since you also are not seeking the limelight, notoriety, or drama. Now take your certificate and get off the stage!
(Apology in advance for bad humor).

I agree with cwillie here. Everybody on this site deserves applause and respect and you name it.

Some people come on here and apologize cause they think their problems aren't as bad as others. I always come back with "if it bothers you it matters" So the caregiver of the day is anybody who is sacrificing every day for their loved one.

Gosh! I haven't prepared my acceptance speech! I want a big trophy or something! But seriously folks, I agree with others who have said hooray to all of us who are getting through life dealing with these tough issues. If you've been cruising around on this forum for anytime at all you quickly get to know who the A Team is. There's a bunch of you out there, too many to name but many times I'm simply amazed at the knowledge that people share about everything from medicaid regs, reverse mortgages, meds and how to get urine smell out of the rug, to mention just a few issues.

BTW, with all due respect to Gladimhere, I always check out what you have to say, this reminds me of the old TV game show Queen For A Day! Do you guys remember that? I was about 4 or 5 years old and my Mom would watch it while she was ironing. The contestants were women who would tell there tales of hardship and woe, and the audiences responce was measured by the "Applause Meter". The winner, who had the most sorrowful situation, would receive the grand prize, a set of tires, washer dryer, a dinette set, get robed and crowned the queen. It was truly amazing. It left a lasting impression on me. Should I seek counseling?

Sorry gladimhere, but over the years I've developed a deep antipathy for popularity contests like presented in this post, I guess it goes back to my school days. Although those who write eloquently or surround themselves with drama get a lot of support and attention and praise, lots of others work just as hard and sacrifice just as much without any notice. So I'm with assandache, hooray to all of us whatever our challenges may be.

I'd like to see a lot more men posting regularly. Their perspective is invaluable - sometimes it challenges our female observations and perceptions, sometimes it complements. But it's always helpful to have a male perspective.

So, MEN, where are you? Please join in more often.

I nominate Cmag and Windyridge for reminding us that men are caregivers too

AND THE CAREGIVER OF THE DAY IS...H O P E
She got her Mom out of respite care and has her coming home!
Maybe, if Hope is as strong as she really is, she's going to survive the respite care thing. Her hair must look great, though. Well done, HOPE.

Today's caregiver of the day should be those constant and faithful posters who have achieved over 1500 helpful answers and 2000 plus posts. The ones who post just in front of your post, or just behind what you posted. Sort of like a poster's tag-team, supporting each other to help someone asking a question. Way to go there! No names because you know who you are!

I want to nominate OregonGirl, for being her partner's loving companion and staunch advocate through the darkest times of their lives. You rock, OregonGirl!!!

I tried to think of a caregiver of the day. The trouble was that so many names came to my mind. I had a hard time picking just one of them. Two names really stand out to me because of the help they give other caregivers: jeannegibbs and igloo. They are caregivers to the caregivers. Jeanne gives such good advice on handling the personal problems of caregiving. And what would we do without Iggy's advice on Medicaid? Both are huge assets to the AC community.

I appreciate the posters who share intimate experiences, solutions and suggestions, even if they do address some of the most difficult and personal challenges of caregiving.

Isn't is funny that we miss the part of our family member that used to be able to say "thank you" or I know it takes a lot out of you...but that part is usually hidden or missing altogether.

Each one of us should go to a mirror and say "You are doing a great job, Thanks!"

For those of you who don't hear those thank yous...I say "Big Thanks! and Nice going!"

Does it matter? The whole point is we all do so much that family, especially, do not recognize or appreciate. So, we can appreciate each other!
