My mother has COPD, heart condition, falls , is a diabetic, and is very weak. Her doctors say that she should not live alone anymore. She is on Medicaid --I am having a difficult time finding her a quality facility that could care for her since she is on Medicaid?

I just need options for her. Is there a program with the assisted living facilities that would accept her on Medicaid, her expenses be paid for by someone else and then later they would accept her Medicaid to pay her expenses? Thank You

My name is S. Brown

My mother could not be in AL, if she needed as much care as you describe. It will be easier to find a NH, that will work with you and medicaid.

There are plenty of Assisted Living Facilities that take Medicaid. However, after you find the right one for Mom, then check them out thoroughly. After your tour, maybe see if the facility would allow you to spend the night like a guest to see if how the staff and what daily activities they have. But again, there are facilities that does take Medicaid and you won't have to worry about the expenses. You can focus on the transition.

Hopes this helps,

Does the doctor believe that AL would be enough care for her or does she need a nursing home? Does she own her home? Is she a widow of a veteran?
