Does Medicare pay for short term care? I know someone who is having surgery and has no one to take care of him when he gets home from the hospital. What would you suggest?

I am an 87 year old woman, no family. I need someone to help me daily activities in my apt. I want to stay with me days. What do you suggest?

I have a friend who is 81years old, has had a stroke and has Parkinson's. At present, he has someone staying with him 24/7 and it is costing a fortune. Do you think he might qualify for health services through Medicare? He lives in CA, so I don't know the rules there. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Medicare provided home care is a wonderful tool. I find, however, most doctors (for whatever reason) do not, or will not, inform their patients of this valuable service. It took me 11 years to realize this help exists. Hospice/Medicare personnel really know their stuff. I would definitely be aggressive and ASK your PCP about this service. If the doctor is too busy or reluctant to provide info, hospitals have social workers and counselors that provide free advice. Call them and ask and ask until you know all there is to know about government run health programs. The health system in many areas is broken. Unless you travel every channel of help, it becomes elusive. Most people do not have the time to seek what is, and was is not, available. Please be an advocate for a loved one that needs your assistance. If you do not try, you will never know.... Good luck.

I would go with Medicare and have her dismissed. She is not doing her duties and responsibilities properly
