Thank you for sharing that story. As my own mum’s dementia progresses, she remembers less and less, even the fact that she and my dad lived with my husband and I for 8 years before moving 5 years ago to the place they are now. When I would visit (before Covid 19), she didn’t remember anything about me being there when I would call to say I arrived back home. But as hard as this is, I do still feel that the happy emotions of my visiting her, sitting and talking about nothing in particular (I often can’t understand the gibberish she utters now) can lift her mood. She knows she is loved and can express love and joy, and that makes all the visits worthwhile.

What a beautiful story! As caregivers, we get so embroiled in the sheer work of it all (especially if they live with you) that you forget to just stop and enjoy the fact that that person is still in your life. Thank you for reminding us all to have those days where we just enjoy being together. As you said, they may not remember the details, but we do and we are both happy.

Thank you Sarah Jane for such a beautiful story! It doesn't get much better than spending the day with our moms and dads! I hope that you have many more of those special days, because it's never enough, this I know! I have my memories and love now and forever! Your story touched me and God Bless You for sharing.

Wow, I need to do that with my Husband who entered the Dementia Community last Wednesday. Thank you! He must get awful tired being cooped up in one place day after day.
