When moms doctor recommended a sleep study and possible cpap, we were concerned about her tolerating the mask because she is claustrophobic. Once she got started she seemed to tolerate is quite well. She used it for about a year and she was much more active and looked much healthier. The wicked cough she had for many years was gone, Being more active due to feeling better, her blood pressure was under control. Her friends and other family members noticed the improvements and it looked like her quality of life was improving.

Then one day she tossed the machine out and said she's sick of it and said it doesn't do any good anyway. That was about a year and a half ago. Now she is back to being always tired and napping during the day, she's extremely irritable, complains of aches and pains, is up all night from leg aches and that nasty cough is back.

I seriously hope one of these non cpap things are an option for her.

I have used Cpap machine for over 5 years.my sleep apnea caused me to wake up 127 times in a night during my sleep study.i am extremely claustrophobic and chose to try a Cpap that did not use a ask, but an appliance that fit into my nostrils. This was much more comfortable and I did not have the problems regarding water dripping on me or dislodging it. I experience a better night's sleep and fewer migraines since I use the machine. I never ever sleep without it. I even use it when I nap.

Sleep apnea also interrupts the sleep of the person with the sleep apnea, causing them to wake during the night and not get restful sleep. There are also drug interactions with many medications. Using the CPAP machine can be helpful and eliminate adding more medications.

Really Sleep apnea is gets treated by other way also. Treating sleep apnea is now possible with other means like taking medication or by any other natural way too. You can even control sleep apnea by taking armodafinil medicine according to your doctor’s guidance. This sleep apnea occurs when interruption in breathing take place during sleep and it disturbs the sleep of other person. So better way is to take medication services online like nuvigilshop and get rid from such sleep problems.

Nice to know there are other options than just CPAP. CPAP was OK while I was on heavy meds but once off them, I was claustrophobic about the mask. Had the problem with the humidifier too and woke up "drowning" in my mask...just before I got claustrophobic. My sleep is bad now but not sure if it is the apnea or stress etc. May need to look at more options here. Thanks

To avoid moisture problems, make sure the c-pap machine is lower than the top of the mattress and that the loop of the tube is also lower than the machine.

I live in Massachusetts and my insurance will not pay for any of the mandibular oral appliances unless I first go through the 90 day trial period for the CPAP machine. I am having a lot of difficulty getting sleep with the CPAP machine, and experience tiredness, fatigue and nosebleeds from the dry air. The humidifier can only be turned up a little before water accumulates in the hose and drips on me while I sleep. Not a pleasant way to wake up

Your wife would not be a good candidate for an oral appliance because of her removable dentures :(.

I am still a bit skeptic about the device. My wife uses a C-Pap machine and actually likes it but it is a hassle as her movements in her sleep dislodges the mouth piece, causing the machine to roar so she takes it off. She has full dentures and the lower ones pop off too easily due to a lack of ample bone to hold them. Could the mentioned denture device work without the lower plate in place?

Most orthodontists that I know personally don't have knowledge of oral appliances to treat sleep apnea. General dentists OR orthodontists who have educated themselves about snoring appliances/sleep apnea are equally proficient. A sleep study is crucial. Find out if your dentist or orthodontist has experience in this area before going to one.

Checked this out, but i have crowns on my front teeth and cannot use. I've had pretty good results by sleeping upright and using an abdominal breathing exercise to relax enough to fall asleep. Still up to bathroom every 2.5 hrs or so not helpful.

Haven't been diagnosed with sleep apnea but I have discovered that propping two pillows helps when I can't sleep, as it elevates me just enough. Watched a Tempur-Pedic commercial and noticed they were elevating the bed just enough to stop the person who was snoring. Don't need the bed, just the elevation.

My mother had one of these. She continued to have episodes of apnea. She really liked it, but it didn't work.
