Since I could not get any help from any local Christian organization or church for services, I had to start getting the resources to hold my own Christian services at the house. I am a poor excuse for a religious leader, but I am all we have. Through my own searching a found Handbook for Worship for Christian Services for Persons with Dementia, created by the Holland Home Evening Star program. I am so grateful their suggestions in their handbook. At least we were able to have some type of organized worship.

Unforchenet that there is not information available on how to treat alzheimer people like if the shoe was on the other foot.

I had the opposite experience for my 84 year old mother. She was active in the church for decades, but when she got Alzheimer's, they would send a card at holidays, but that was pretty much it. We were on our own, and we couldn't even get people from the church to call on the phone. I am so glad your experience was different.

Thank you for your comments. Life takes so many spins- and we have an influence on that spin. I'm glad that your diagnosis was reversed and I am very glad you shared your feelings with us.

Wonderful that you have the community involvement. My dad has been abandoned by his friends as well as family, even his only remaining brother much younger than himself.

So profound. I feel the same for my dad. He was a great community person and very involved with his church and he was always loved and respected. always very popular wherever he went. It is sad to see him wither with no remembrance of names and faces or which day it is. He looks fine and normal, but is slowly deteriorating mentally. It is very hard and sad. It is scary too as I inherited all his ailments.

Giving your friends and acquaintances permission to interact with you on this issue is wonderful for all of you. My husband refused to acknowledge his disease and I watched caring people melt away because they didn't know what he needed from them. Applaude your courage.
