Good article. I learned to do this the hard way. Before his stroke, my dad kept falling when I wasn't around. One time, even inside the bathroom. He told me that when he falls, he has difficulty getting up. I didn't comprehend this until it happened in front of me. He just could not even sit up. It was as if his muscles became atrophy. He insisted that I grab his hand and pull him up. Problem is that he weighs double mine. But I tried just to prove to him that it wouldn't work. I ended up almost falling on top of him. So, we ended up doing what you mentioned on this article. He had to be the one to turn around to his hands and knees and pull himself up the sofachair. Thanks for this article. I always felt sooo bad that I just stood there and let him do all the work.

Another thing to add, when your elderly starts falling all the time, check to see if it's stroke-related. A warning. I didn't know this until after the fact. That and not being able to grab anything. Dad tried to pick up something, and he couldn't.
