Thank you. The incredible magic and mystery of life; they holy ground we walk on always and mostly forget about. Thank you for the reminder. I have been helping my Brother as he was, a few months ago, diagnosed with PD. In just a few days with some amino acid supplements, was no longer shuffling and was much more 'present'. It seems magnesium, taurine, NAc and B12 might all have been depleted with the use of PPI suppressors for years.
Most old people will enjoy talking about their lives with patient listeners. Research shows that the elderly that have regular opportunities to talk about their lives take more interest in themselves and find purpose in life. It is a powerful counter-measure to the isolation and depression felt by many of the aged whose lives have changed from being involved in the major aims of life to being sidelined and marginalised and, sadly, forgotten or considered inconsequential.
Ideally, such conversations and attention should not be single events, but a series that is maintained over the life of the elderly person.
It has been shown that many of the emotional and mental problems that become the lot of many elderly people are often dissipated by this kind of attention. Recording can be made of these conversations that will prove invaluable for succeeding generations in helping them know their forbears and the kinds of lives they led.
So beautiful! Along the lines of memories I have just received an email and video about the power of music. They gave an ipod of old music to a man in a nursing home and he came alive. It was amazing. It's something to think about and try with your dementia people. I used to sing to my husband and he liked it.
