This article stinks and is full of errors, and tells a story that just isn't true. Jean Kasem took her husband on a medical flight straight to Washington, not on an automobile trip. THE HEADLINES READ: CASEY KASEM ON VACATION, NOT IN DANGER, WHEN FOUND IN WASHINGTON. POLICE SAID CASEY WAS ALERT, COGNIZANT, DRESSED AND GROOMED---AND SAID LOUD AND CLEAR---"I'M ON VACATION". The kids from the first marriage had no right to be involved with their fathers family.

Very interesting and thought-provoking. I think most of us (me, certainly) go merrily on our ways with these HCPOAs, as an example, never thinking about, "What if something goes wrong?" Great piece. Thank you.

Casey Kasem just always beamed such a positive spirit, it made me sad that his end of life was affected by such conflict. I'm unclear from the article above though about what mistake he actually made? To give Jean the power to restrict disruptive visitors in and of itself doesn't seem wrong. And what if he did have a bad relationship with one of the children who was genuinely upsetting him? Jean dragging him about the country is hard to view in a positive light but without more details it is hard to know. My guess is that he misjudged how she would handle things and how bad the relationship was between her and his children. I wonder in a situation like this does someone have the option to name a non-family heathy care proxy who does the job professionally? And in such a case how does one avoid scammers?
