I hear ya about not wanting to do the math. :) Unfortunately I don't have a Figs or its equivalent a reasonable distance from me. Also unfortunately now that I've learned to enjoy fish there are long lists of which kinds are most likely to be contaminated, and all fish, even the contaminated ones, are expensive!
But your point about eating healthy is well-taken.
My Dr. has told me for the last 3 yrs to eat like my Native Americans relatives. They "were" lean, traveled and sustained. I told him, this is 2014, it's difficult to stay away from all the things I like, which are basically sweet. Then we found my husband has one complete blockage, "the widow maker" and his left side is totally clotted with stringy clots, so surgery is out of the q's. So we started eating meat, vegs, egg beaters, turkey bacon, turkey anything. He's lost 30 lbs....and I eat partially like he does. I know if I were in his place, I'd be eating the exact same way.
I TOTALLY AGREE, I HAVE GENETIC ARTHRITIS AND MEDICALLY DIAGNOSED DEPRESSION. OTHER THAN THESE TWO THINGS I HAVE NO OTHER MAJOR MEDICAL PROBLEMS. I DO NOT HAVE DIABETES OR HEART PROBLEMS AND MY CHOLESTEROL LEVEL IS NORMAL. MY FATHER WAS PART ITALIAN AND HE LOVED FOOD AND SO DO I. FORTUNATELY FOR ME I AM A VEGETARIAN AND I JUST LOVE FRUIT, VEGETABLES, NUTS AND LEGUMES. I LOVE CURRY, MEXICAN SALSAS AND MEDITERRANEAN FOOD. THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS WHICH CAN BE DONE WITH FOOD WITHOUT MEAT, SALT OR SUGAR AND SO MANY FOODS I HAVE NOT YET TASTED BUT WILL.
