I see taking that morning little bit of time as similar to putting gas in the tank of the car....without the gas the car won't go! So, do not feel guilty about taking that morning time for a cup or two of coffee, and some "me" time when you can. This way you will be better to take care of your loved one and there should be no guilt in that.

Going on 16 months now, and it became quite apparent early on that I'd need to have my morning ritual before beginning the daily care. It consists of my cold water, protein shake, and cup of coffee.. .then taking the cat out for his 15 minutes of exploration and games. It also gives me something to begin the morning conversation about when I awake my bedridden mom and start her daily hygiene.
Depending on the level of the patient's need, some of the suggestions are helpful and some are unrealistic. I try to find little moments of enjoyment each day and sometimes make them reward goals.

I needed to read that... i allow myself that cuppa before i start the day, with a little bit of guilt but i know if i dont, i won't do what i need to do, with respect and care. Its all so very overwhelming at times. 6 years on now, and its only of late that i allow myself to have what i 'deserve', but its difficult, the guilt persists but... i know like in the aircrafts, i need to put the mask on first, before i'm any good to anyone else :D cheers, thanx much.
